In this humble volume, Pedro V. Salgado, O. P., traces the history of the Philippine economy from the feudal Castilian period unto the fascist, semi-feudal, and semi-colonial regime of Marcos Sr. Although published in 1985, a year before the dictator Marcos was overthrown, Fr. Salgado’s work continues to be useful for both scholars and activists in understanding how and why the Philippine economy is the way it is, that is to say, essentially an appendage of the U. S. imperialist order.
