Article. Published in American Educator, 2014 (Summer). — PP. 4-13.
The purpose of this article is to explain the rationale for content-rich oral vocabulary instruction in the age of the CCSS (Common Core State Standards) and how to effectively build children's vocabulary. This article also dispels some of the common myths about oral vocabulary development, which have often lead to a lack attention for this important topic in school instruction. In addition, it contains a set of instructional principles that should guide teachers' work.
