The family came from England to Canada and the United States in the 18th century, living in New England, Ohio and elsewhere, or in Nova Scotia and elsewhere in Canada. It includes the major Liverpool slave traders Richard and James Gildart. Most of the genealogical data in this volume deals with ancestry in England to the 1200s.
