In vitro culture is an essential component of plant-biotechnology, offers innovative approaches in several research areas. The book provides general principles, the new applications and the perspective of tissue culture. It includes the advances in plantin vitro culture regarding to micropropagation, the induction of somatic embryogenesis, the improving of methodologies through the analysis of medium components, and the use of additives to increase the frequency of regeneration and the production of the in vitro cultures. Biotechnologies applied on medicinal plants have been reported, such as the use of bioreactors to produce biomolecules. Further, the innovations as the flow-cytometry for detection of somaclonal variation in micropropagated plants, the consequence of somaclonal variation, and the possible application of the nanotechnology to in vitro cultures have been illustrated. Taking the above mentioned points, the book will be of use to researchers, teachers in biotechnology and for individuals interested to the commercial application of plant in vitro culture.
