Practical Radio Resource Management in Wireless Systems

Covering GSM, GPRS, UMTS, and beyond 3G systems, Kyriazakos (Telecommunications Laboratory, National Technical University of Athens, Greece) and Karetsos (Information Technology and Telecommunications Department, Technological Education Institute, Greece) provide researchers, network operators, and managers in wireless telecommunications with proven techniques for decreasing blocking and dropped call rate due to network congestion. Using real measurements, they show that the maximum traffic that can be accommodated in a wireless network is not a constant value and varies significantly. They explain how to configure networks to maximize system utilization and ensure service during peak periods of usage.
