This book explores the complex interplay between the economic realities of producing energy for a global market and the role of government in regulating and structuring the extraction, production, and delivery of petroleum products. This study approaches the subject solely within the framework of economic development and institutional capacity-building to explore the economic history of the petroleum industry in Alberta. It provides a detailed analysis of the operation of the markets for Alberta oil and natural gas and the use of governmental regulations to balance and support economic development.
