Foreword by Paul Schach. Norse or Icelandic is a difficult language taught only at some research universities. Mastering it requires several semesters and usually an extended stay in Reykjavík. Yet many scholars and students must use Norse materials without any knowledge of the language, and general readers enjoy the sagas as literature even though they read them only in translation. I compiled this volume primarily for them.
