The goal of this tutorial and associated short course is fairly straightforward- I wish to introduce the program well enough for one to understand some basics and feel comfortable trying things on their own. In this light the focus will be on some typical applications (colored by a social science perspective) with simple examples, and furthermore to identify the ways people can obtain additional assistance on their own in order to eventually become self-sufficient. It is hoped that those taking it will obtain a good sense of how R is organized, what it has to offer above and beyond the package they might already be using, and have a good idea how to use it once they leave the course.
