English is largely considered the language of globalization and international development; as such, the English language has been widely disseminated across the globe. The adoption of English by diverse peoples has evolved multiple varieties, called World Englishes. While these adaptations of English should constitute a paradigm shift in English language pedagogy, educational policies continue to favor native speaker norms.
These phenomena are explored, and the notion of the postmethod is discussed as a possible path to decolonizing English language pedagogy.
