Joyce Graham Baltas, Ph.D., is a Senior Consultant and Project Director with the National Urban Alliance for Effective Education, Teacher's College, Columbia University. Previously she was Director of Research and Professional Development for the Instructional Publishing Group at Scholastic, Inc., responsible for the assessment, staff development, and writing components of Literacy Place, a core reading and language arts program. She has edited a number of professional books for Scholastic, and is the co-author of several titles for Scholastic Teaching Resources, including Easy Lessons and Strategies that Build Content Area Reading Skills, co-authored with Denise Nessel.
