The spring of 1976 found a group of predominately white female faculty, staff. and students at Georgia State University meeting for the first time to discuss a common interest in research on women. As individuals in departments we experienced a lack of intellectual responsiveness to our scholarly pursuits. Meeting together for discussions, we found the intellectual ferment and stimulation we were seeking. We decided as an informal group to call ourselves the Georgia State University Women's Studies Group. thus acknowledging our membership in the academic arm of the resurgent women's movement
