This report presents an accumulation of data concerning the fatigue of austenitic stainless steels in the low and intermediate cycle range (10 to 10). asrnuch as asignificant percentage of the failures which occur high temperature equipment utilizing stainless steels result from the presence of cyclic stresses . More of ten than not there are other factors such as material defects , corrosion, geometric discontinuities , etc . , which amplify the effect but before we can hope to understand what allowances should be made for such factors we must gain some idea of the basic resistance of these materials t ocyclic stresses at elevated temperatures.
