Engineering and design guidelines for optimized use of ACCC ("Aluminum Conductor Composite Core") overhead conductor. Unlike conventional all-aluminum or steel-reinforced overhead conductors, the ACCC conductor uses a hybrid glass and carbon fiber core that exhibits high-strength, light-weight, a low coefficient of thermal expansion and excellent self-damping characteristics. In addition to these characteristics, the ACCC conductor's added aluminum content and high-temperature capability allow it to carry up to twice the current of a conventional conductor with substantially reduced line losses. These attributes can all be used to improve the efficiency, capacity and reliability of the electric power grid. This book was written by CTC Global Corporation, the developer of the patented and copyrighted ACCC conductor which is produced in association with qualified and licensed stranding partners worldwide.
