The Lexikon is essentially an updated version of authors' Kleines Wörterbuch sprachwissenschaftlicher Termini (1975) even though it has a different title and is not billed as a revised edition. Its scope covers the whole range of linguistic sciences from grammar and historical and comparative linguistics to trends in modern linguistics such as generative transformational grammar and sociolinguistics. Most entries very in length from one line to a paragraph. Good use is mad of "see" and "see also" references. Words used in the definitions that are entries themselves are marked. Updating is accomplished mainly through the addition of some new entries for a total of more than 3,000 entries. The dictionary by Ulrich (see entry 68) is similar, but has fewer entries.
