Colabella's work has appeared in Harper's Bazaar , Forbes , and Folio. He specializes in portraits. This is a collection of commercial and private portraits with diagrams describing placement of lights, reflectors, and camera for each. Colabella preplans pose and setting via research and sketches; ideally, both subject and photographer bring preconceived ideas to the sitting. The portrait then is a synthesis, although featuring the photographer's interpretation of his subject. This tell-all-you-know approach combined with trite characterizations tends to lead to distracting backgrounds and well-lit but superficial pictures. Beautifully produced with big colored pictures on almost every page, but not a necessary purchase.
