Derived from the Philips "Red Book" for Compact Disc Digital Audio (or CD-DA), IEC 60908 is the information necessary to read and create digital audio CD's, which is still, as of writing in 2019, overwhelmingly the most common format for audio CD's. This otherwise-copyrighted information is essential for constructing audio CD players, computer CD drive hardware, and decoding raw format images of CD's (such as are sought-after by archivists). (This is the British National copy, which is essentially identical to the International Standard IEC 60908:1999)
