Wang You. Chinglish: an Emerging New Variety of English Language? // Journal of Cambridge Studies. 2009. 4 (1). P. 28-34
English, as a global language, is learned and used in China to fulfil the needs of international communication. In the non-Anglo-American sociocultural context, English language is in constant contact with the local language, Chinese. The contact gives birth to Chinglish, which is based on and shares its core grammar and vocabulary with British English. This paper investigates and tries to offer answers to the following two questions:
1. To what extent can Chinglish be tolerated in China?
2. Could Chinglish be a new variety of English language?
