China’s world harmony belief reflects its deep concern about current problems of world development. Today’s world discord is due largely to unilateralism, unbalanced development, different states of development, and new and old cultural differences. The harmony concept implies diversity; acceptance, tolerance and patience, therefore, each nation can develop in its own unique cultural climate according to its state of development. Harmony will grow in the fertile soil of the diversity of the cultures of the world, spreading and contributing to the world harmony movement. Confucius said: “Jun Zi He Er Bu Tong, Xia Ren Tong Er Bu He” (Gentlemen can disagree and still have harmony; petty persons can agree and do not have harmony). World development cannot be dominated by one country. In an ancient Chinese saying, “one must allow one hundred flowers to bloom and one hundred schools of thought to contend.” Reaching for harmony, human development must be elevated to the highest level of values to benefit the whole world and all the people. Harmony world will earn the hearts of all the people in the world. It will become the common language and aspiration. Harmony ideals belong to the world. All citizens of the world can contribute towards our mutual global harmony cultural heritage.
