The present book is designed as a descriptive grammar of Literary or Standard Buriat for linguists. It is also hoped that it can be used for teaching purposes. The analysis has been placed on a phonemic basis. All Buriat examples are given in phonemic transcription and much attention has been paid to morphophonemic analysis. The language treated is Standard Buriat, i.e ., the lanĀguage of Buriat literature and press which is based on the Khori dialect. It is very close to Colloquial Khori but differs from the latter in the same manner as any literary language differs from the colloquial it is based on.
