This project was conceived at the 2004 NEH Summer Institute on Anglo-Saxon England at the University of Cambridge. Three of the contributors presented early versions of their work at the International Congress on Medieval Studies at Western Michigan University in May 2006. Andrew Scheil graciously served as presider of that session; he also offered thoughtful comments and questions, as did Andy Orchard, Dana Oswald, Paul Szarmach, Samantha Zacher, and other members of the audience.
