First published in 1988. An up-to-date study of all nautical terms employed in Ancient Egypt from the Early Dynastic period to Greco-Roman times. The present work was produced in response to the continuing need for more detailed studies of specialised categories of words. The information contained in it has been gleaned from a wide range of sources, both literary and non-literary, religious and secular, extending from the early dynastic period right down to Graeco-Roman times. The work contains all the words, titles and terms listed in the Berlin Worterbuch as well as many more which have appeared since. The method adopted to display the words is essentially that of Faulkner's Concise Dictionary of Kiddle Egyptian. The order in which they are listed is strictly alphabetical, including such adjectives as c3, wr, nb etc. Prepositions are not considered. The most common orthography is given first - variant spellings are often added - followed by a transliteration, a translation (followed in Section I by the individual's name), the approximate date of the source and textual references. Discussions of individual words in journals and monographs have been noted, and duplicate references to the same word in different publications are often provided. Where textual references to titles and terms are copious, only a representative selection is given; otherwise, as complete a list as possible is provided.
