Le Grec au contact du Turc. Le cas des relatives en Cappadocien

Paper no. 338.In standard modem Greek, the relative clause obligatorily follows its head noun. In Cappadocian, on the other hand, the relative clause generally precedes its head noun as a result of heavy borrowing from the surrounding Turkish. This paper argues that it is not just the order of the relative clause vis—a-vis the head noun which is borrower. The use of the article instead of a relativiser and the placement of other determiners suggests that the Cappadocian relative clause is in fact a nominalisation intended to render the Turkish participial construction.
