The book ‘A experiência do cinema de Lucrecia Martel: Resíduos do tempo e sons à beira da piscina’ [Lucrecia Martel’s Film Experience: Traces of Time and Sounds by the Pool], analyses the three first features of Argentine filmmaker Lucrecia Martel: ‘La ciénaga’/‘The Swamp’ (2001), ‘La niña santa’/‘The Holy Girl’ (2004) and ‘La mujer sin cabeza‘/‘The Headless Woman’ (2008). It mainly focuses on the use of sound, and also discusses some recurrent themes in the films, such as family and social relationships, the loss of faith and the power of sexual desire, among others. The book also brings a brief overview of the history of Argentine cinema, with great attention to New Argentine Cinema, a context in which Martel participated and that is important to understand some characteristics of her work.
