This third edition of International Civil Aviation Vocabulary provides a unique collection of standardized definitions in all six working languages of the International Civil Aviation Organization and includes definitions that have been amended or adopted by the ICAO Council over the last five years. Part 1 contains the definitions, in all languages, listed in alphabetical order according to the English term. Lists of the Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish terms, in alphabetical order and with numerical references to the corresponding definitions, appear at the end of Part 2 and make it possible to find a definition in the desired language. The codes in parentheses following some of the English definitions refer to the sources of the definitions. These sources can be found in all six languages in a table at the beginning of Part 1. Part 2 contains a comprehensive list of abbreviations from the latest edition of the Procedures for Air Navigation Services — ICAO Abbreviations and Codes (Doc 8400, PANS-ABC). Since Doc 8400 is not yet published in Arabic or Chinese, abbreviations available in those languages were gathered from Arabic and Chinese editions of the Annexes to the Convention on International Civil Aviation. In view of the rapid evolution of technical vocabulary, readers are reminded that Annexes, being among the most frequently amended ICAO documents, can be relied on for the most up-to-date versions of definitions.
