To make it easier for the reader to assimilate the copious information in
the book, and to help keep a perspective of the overall philosophy, I
propose to use this extended introduction briefly to identify my main
themes and to show how they combine to produce a broad overview of the
development of `western' spiritual culture. By unravelling often
deliberately confused historical information and false religious
indoctrination, a radically different picture emerges of the last two
millennia. Although most people may not be aware of it, it is in fact now
the destiny of the western culture, through the English language, to
establish the Unified (Christ) consciousness as the only truly universal
