Doctors or scientists who question vaccines are considered threats to the public perception that all experts support vaccination. Anyone who questions the dominant views about vaccines is subject to abuse, including threats, formal complaints, censorship, and loss of their livelihood. Proponents of vaccination suppress dissent in ways that are unfair. Methods include spreading rumors that threaten professional reputations, harassment, and denial of funding or access to research material. There is a double standard in biomedical and vaccine research. When orthodox views are promoted, serious ethical violations such as undeclared conflicts of interest, using false placebos and withholding evidence, are often ignored. Neil Z. Miller is a medical research journalist and Director of the Thinktwice Global Vaccine Institute. He has devoted the past 25 years to educating parents and health practitioners about vaccines, encouraging informed consent and non-mandatory laws. He is the author of several books on vaccines, including Vaccine Safety Manual for Concerned Families and Health Practitioners, Make an Informed Vaccine Decision for the Health of Your Child (with Dr. Mayer Eisenstein) and Vaccines: Are They Really Safe and Effective?
