This book will attempt to describe some of the advances made since publication of New Worlds Beyond the Atom* which gave an account of de la Warr’s earlier work. The whole thing constitutes the beginning of a new science. Before this can be understood we shall have to consider the position of the physical and biological sciences today which are struggling to escape from the Iron Maiden of materialism. In particular we must see how the basic framework of the Universe, into which materialism attempts to cram phenomena, is far too limited. We shall have to stretch our thinking to embrace a multidimensional Universe if we are to find room for intangible things, such as thought and emotion, which cannot forever be excluded from Science.
