I hereby declare that this project work is an authentic record of my own work carried out at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Gurugram during 7 weeks summer training as a student of B.E – Computer Science Engineering, MSc – Mathematics at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani during 22nd May, 2018 to 12TH July 2018. ------------- Internet of Things is a network with the help of which device, objects, machines etc can communicate in real time over the internet. Internet of Things greatly increases efficiency of tasks, optimizes various processes and provides data for performance analysis. Generally, real time data collected by various sensors on a device is collected and sent onto a server where this data is interpreted or used. This data can be read to infer changes in operational conditions, effect on output of a certain change and effect on the component of a particular variable change. IoT technologies can be implemented in both, production environments and Maruti’s cars. In production, supply chain, assembly lines implementing IoT would mean that fault diagnosis is in real time and the effects of the fault can also be mapped. Currently, Maruti does pre-emptive maintenance, twice a year, in a particular week (once in June and the other time in December) to make sure they don’t face operational difficulties. But, this maintenance or ‘shutdown’ causes huge production loses to Maruti. The ideal way to go about this problem would be to devise a method by which Maruti achieves proficiency in machine breakdown handling. The main aim of this project would be to study the production and assembly line and suggest where use of IoT technologies is viable. This project will also focus on suggesting IoT centric changes and analyse the use of prevalent technologies in Maruti’s two most popular car for the average urban households- WagonR and Swift DZire. The car, when outside of the ‘home’ environment, constantly keeps a track of the customer’s location via GPS on the customer’s phone. If someone else tries to gain access to the car, which will become apparent once the location of the car is different from the location of the customer, the car would enter a lockdown, meaning none of its functions would work until the users grants access from his phone. Implementing this would make sure that the cars are almost impossible to misuse or steal and the user has a constant track of the car from his phone itself. Also, Without tweaking too much of the under the hood operation, a Maruti car can be converted into an analogue of a smart machine. Self-diagnostics has become a common place market utility. Fridges, ACs and other machines come with self-diagnosing abilities. It saves the user the hassle of taking the car to shop and smaller problems such as directional bias in a car can be corrected by the car itself. Maruti´s solutions for these and other issues pave the way for greater IOT technology to be implemented on a greater scale in its other products. These improvements will help Maruti maintain a competitive edge.
