In Chapter 1 we'll try to give an introduction to the theory of group representations and we will demonstrate the usefulness of this theory by investigating several problems from image science. This group theoretical approach was motivated by the observation that many problems in image processing are very regular.
The central idea of group representations is then introduced in Chapter 3.
The construction of invariant function spaces is demonstrated in Chapter 4.
In Chapter 5 we demonstrate how the concept of Fourier series can be generalized.
In Chapter 6 it is then demonstrated how the results from the previous chapters can be used to investigate and solve problems in image science.
