Sergej Vasil'evic Rachmaninov (1873-1943), pianista, compositore e direttore d'orchestra, ha incarnato, dopo Liszt, la figura ideale di autore e interprete. Attraversando anno per anno ciascuna delle grandi tragedie del secolo scorso, seppe rifiutare ogni ideologia modernista, per inseguire una sorta di "modernità" sapiente. Le sue opere e la sua discografia sono testimonianza di quanto sia stato per lui possibile travalicare ogni barriera temporale. Davide Bertotti (Torino 1965), compositore, pianista, direttore di coro e musicologo, ha fondato nel 1993 l'Ensemble Fuorintempo e dal 1994 collabora con l'ensemble "Il sogno di Polifilo". Per L'Epos ha pubblicato "Il direttore d'orchestra da Wagner a Furtwangler".
