Saumya Chakrabarti is a Professor of Economics at Visva-Bharati (University), Santiniketan, India. He has also taught at St. Xavier’s College Kolkata, University of Calcutta, and at Presidency University Kolkata. Professor Chakrabarti has been a visiting fellow at Brown University, USA. He was an Honorary Director, Agro-Economic Research Centre (Govt. of India), Santiniketan. He has published in journals like Cambridge Journal of Economics, Review of Radical Political Economics, Economic and Labour Relations Review, Economic and Political Weekly, Indian Journal of Agricultural Economics, Indian Journal of Labour Economics among others; and has written books published by Prentice Hall and Oxford University Press. He regularly contributes in popular journals and vernacular dailies. This is a collection of forty four op-ed that he wrote during 2006-07 in Sangbad Pratidin newspaper. These articles critically analyse Indian and West Bengal’s political economy from a Marxian perspective.
