Abstract Malaria is an endemic disease from Peruvian Amazon, whose incidence reached limits never before seen in the late 1990 decade. As a result of this process, the Government implemented an aggressive program of eradication and control with short-term success. However, given the re-emerging and prevalent characteristics of this disease, its present occurrence is increasing rapidly. This paper aims to identify and characterize populations at high risk of malaria, based on a methodology that includes both temporal and spatial dimensions, as the spatial distribution and concentration of the malaria’s incidence at the district and regional level. Moreover this paper presents a brief analysis of territorial occupation by indigenous communities, settlers and large scale extractive industries in the Corrientes River basin, between 2002 and 2007, supported on the satellite images analysis.
